Spicy Beef & Broccoli Stirfry.

I swear, every time I try to type “stirfry,” I first end up with “S-T-I-R-F-Y”… as if the second ‘R’ doesn’t even exist. I haven’t a clue why this particular word is such a difficult one for my fingers!

Stirfy, stirfy, stirfy.


Meanwhile, just typing the title of this post brings an all-time fave quirky song to mind, and so I have to share with you, of course:

And speaking of broccoli, I’ve got an amazing dish to share with you – one that I’m sure Dana Carvey would approve of. At least, I hope he doesn’t mind that I sang his song while I cut up florets. ;-)

Spicy Beef & Broccoli Stirfry.

Now, the spiciness of this dish is spot-on for me & mine, but if you like dishes with enough heat to fan your tongue, then you’ll be able to adjust things easily. It also comes together so quickly, and my boys were LICKING their plates clean. I love that I’m raising “foodies,” and within a few bites of a new dish, the boys decide for me whether or not a recipe is a new family fave. In just ONE bite, they unanimously voted for a repeat performance of this dish.

Tasty. Easy. Earns “props.” I call that a win-win-win!

Plus, in *my* book, I also consider it to be a beautiful meal. That’s just a gold star at the top of an already-good paper. ;-)

Spicy Beef & Broccoli Stirfry.

Spicy Beef & Broccoli Stirfry
(recipe from Main Dishes, published by The Pampered Chef®)

  • 1-1/4 lbs. boneless beef top sirloin steak, trimmed lean
  • 3 cups fresh broccoli florets
  • 1 medium white onion
  • 1 red bell pepper
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/2 cup beef broth
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 Tbsp. cornstarch
  • 2 Tbsp. vegetable oil, divided
  • 1 tsp. ground ginger**
  • 1/4 tsp. crushed red pepper flakes

In a large bowl, combine 1 Tbsp. of the vegetable oil, cornstarch, and soy sauce; whisk well. Carve steak of as much fat as possible, and cut into 1/4″ strips. Add steak to soy sauce marinade and toss to coat. Cover loosely & refrigerate while preparing the rest of the meal.

Cut onion & red pepper into thin strips, and chop broccoli (while singing!) into florets. In a small cup, combine garlic, ground ginger, and crushed red pepper flakes together. In a large stirfry skillet (or wok), bring 1 tsp. vegetable oil to shimmering over medium-high heat. Pull steak from the fridge & remove from the marinade, discarding the juices. In two batches, add half of the steak strips & the garlic mixture to the hot skillet. (Your skillet should sizzle & pop when you add the meat!) Stir fry for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until no longer pink. Remove from skillet, keeping meat covered & warm. Repeat with another 1 tsp. oil, and remaining steak, and garlic mixture. Remove from skillet, too.

Heat last 1 tsp. vegetable oil in skillet; add cut & chopped vegetables. Stir fry 4-5 minutes or until crisp-tender. Add the steak back to the skillet. Add the beef broth; bring to a boil. Heat through until slightly thickened. Serve warm over hot rice.

Serves 4.

(**Their recipe calls for 1 tsp. finely chopped, peeled fresh gingerroot. I didn’t have that, so I substituted for 1 tsp. ground ginger instead.)

  1. I make stir fry quite a bit but I’ve also used chicken. Duuhhhh! Never thought to use beef but I will now if it tastes as good as this looks.
